Tutoring Children Senior Project
Tutoring Children Senior ProjectHave you ever thought about tutoring children's senior project? I don't mean the white board in the study room. Instead, I am talking about a system that is actually becoming more popular every day.It all started in a Christian church. When it was time for the senior youth group to prepare for a holiday outing, the adults gathered in one of the smaller rooms of the church and each of the children who would be taking part in the trip was asked to come up with a plan. The children were divided into two groups; one group would be given the task of making a movie, while the other group would take on the job of baking cookies. This was a great way to introduce some discipline into the youth group, and most of the parents loved it!Since the kids were usually living at home and often had different needs than their classmates, the Christian kids were able to focus on meeting those needs. They would watch the movies together and discuss the themes of the movies with the group. Their parents were allowed to observe, as well, but not until the project was finished. This project came about because the Christian kids were able to put their own individuality to work. All they did was make a movie, of course, but they also baked cookies for a much larger group. When you watch the movie, it is very clear that the seniors were very pleased with the amount of participation and camaraderie they felt they were able to enjoy.A similar project has been used in the church since then, and it's been extremely successful. One Sunday morning, when the senior youth group was gathered for the annual meeting, one of the children was given the opportunity to teach a class about senior citizens.I don't know if he did it, but I'sure he was given the room to run his mouth as long as he wanted to. He taught each of the adults a lesson about each of the different types of seniors in the United States. The crowd was immediately awed by the quality of his presentation . He went over all the topics with the reverence that only the elderly should be given. When the elders asked him to present a movie, he did not hesitate to talk about Disneyland. He also took questions from the older children, who asked what their grandmother might like. With a little bit of tutoring and sharing of ideas, this Christian youth group was able to put together a fascinating project that allowed everyone to learn something new.
